Our Network
Vascular Surgery is a large unit based on the translational platform built over the past 50 years between the Vascular Surgery Clinic (Karolinska Hospital) and Lab (Karolinska Institute), which Ljubica Matic bridges as one of the senior PIs. The close clinical affiliation to Vascular Surgery provides our Group with access to patient material and expertise needed for translation of research findings. In this context, Ljubica Matic also acts as one of the steering board PIs and research coordinator for the Biobank of Karolinska Endarterectomies (BiKE, est 2002).
The high-profile BioClinicum CVP network gathers 10 research groups (approx. 100 people) and provides joint equipment and infrastructure for biobanking, basic cell and molecular biology, histology, core facilities such as Live-cell imaging Incucyte, Seahorse, Flow cytometry/FACS, NanoString spatial transcriptomics, advanced confocal microscopy, etc. The CVP research groups together also organise 20-25 various PhD level courses for students at KI and internationally, covering a wide span of topics from vascular cell biology and basic research in cardiovascular disease mechanisms to disease epidemiology, biomarkers, diagnostic methods, etc.
We also belong to the AtheroNET network, an initiative aiming to connect experts from different fields into European and international networks to apply multiple omics technologies and data integration through machine learning/artificial intelligence ML/AI in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). https://atheronet.eu
