Melody Chemaly

Postdoctoral Researcher, PharmD, PhD

I have a background in Pharmacy, a MSc in clinical biochemistry and molecular biology (Saint Joseph University, Lebanon) and a PhD in biomarker discovery in atherosclerosis from Ulster University (Northern Ireland, UK). I also completed a postdoctoral training at the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA) before joining the Vascular Surgery Group at Karolinska Institute in 2020.

My research interests include testing creative approaches targeting smooth muscle cells phenotypic trans-differentiation in atherosclerosis and the exploration of pathways associated with plaque vulnerability such as plaque neovascularization and cellular senescence as they offer new approaches for therapy development in atherosclerosis.

I enjoy writing popular science articles within my field of research and I like to take ballet classes, DIY-ing and I am extremely enjoying being a new mom!
