Hong Jin

Senior Specialist Researcher, MD, PhD

I achieved my MD Ph.D. degree at Harbin Medical University and worked as a cardiologist for 6 years prior to moving to the U.S.A where I completed a 4-year postdoctoral research work on Metabolic and atherothrombotic diseases. This was initiated in Philip Tsao’s group at Stanford University, then I finalized the work in Steven Lentz’s group at the University of Iowa. I started to work at Karolinska Institute in November 2012. As a senior research specialist and animal lab manager, I have actively applied and co-applied to several national and international projects with my expertise in molecular vascular biology and in vivo vascular models, being very productive with respect to publications in the cardiovascular field (h-index 21). My long-term research is focused on applying, exploring, and refining pre-clinical animal models to mimic the physiological and pathological conditions of cardiovascular diseases, enabling us to further understand the mechanisms of disease development and test proof-of-concept therapeutic approaches for translational purposes. Simultaneously, I also take an active role in educational and pedagogical duties, acting as a co-supervisor for Ph.D. students and supervisor for Master students, Organizer/Course Director for a Ph.D. course titled "Beyond gene expression-epigenetics in the cardiovascular system" and Instructor in murine models of vascular disease.

My favorite activities outside of the lab are revolved around living out the motto: “You can either travel or read, but either your body or soul must be on the way.”
