Discovery studies
We are utilising and developing the large Biobank of Karolinska Endarterectomy (BiKE, est 2002) for explorations of the material and data from nearly 2000 patients operated for carotid atherosclerosis in the region of Stockholm. BiKE comprises:
1) BioBank with plaque tissues, plasma, PBMCs, DNA and RNA from all patients (of which 20% are women and 30% are diabetic)
2) ImageBank with quantified patient diagnostic images, especially computed tomographies and ultrasound
3) DataBank with omics datasets for genetics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics
and full clinical/epidemiological data covering a period of 20 years including follow up on major adverse cardio- and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs). Our discovery studies are validated and complemented in collaboration with other CVD cohorts nationally and internationally.
